Cañas y barro

El Palmar, pedanía situada en el corazón del paraíso natural de la Albufera, fue el escenario de la novela “Cañas y barro” de Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. Magnífica historia de personajes inolvidables como el Tío Paloma, Neleta, Sangonera, la Samaruca, Canyamel… que retrata con un realismo deslumbrante las costumbres de esta zona a principios del siglo XX. Cualquiera que la haya visto o leído seguramente recordará alguna de sus escenas más impactantes como el atracón fatal de Sangonera o el crimen de Tonet. 

Pero el Palmar, sin abandonar las actividades tradicionales de la pesca y el cultivo del arroz, ha sabido incorporar una oferta turística de hostelería y actividades recreativas que la convierten en uno de los lugares más singulares y atractivos de la región.

Destino perfecto para disfrutar del Parque Natural de la Albufera desde la orilla o con un paseo en barca, para contemplar alguna barraca (ver WP1), construcción tradicional de la zona, aún en pie o para saborear su rica cocina con el all i pebre, la llisa adobada o, por supuesto, la paella en la cuna del arroz valenciano. Hay un parking gratuito (ver WP2) y se puede llegar en transporte público con la línea 24 de EMT. Para ver la naturaleza en todo su esplendor, los mejores meses para visitar el Palmar son de mayo a julio y de noviembre a febrero. En marzo y abril los arrozales están secos aunque las vistas siempre son impresionantes.

Para registrar como es debido hay que, por este orden, pasear por el pueblo y alrededores descubriendo sus caminos, tancats y barracas mientras vas haciendo hambre. Continuar imitando a Sangonera pero sin pasarse. Y terminar con un paseo en barca al atardecer cuando la luz del crepúsculo tiñe de magia el lago. Pero como eso es mucho placer y los geocachers somos perezosos, me conformaré con que subas una foto tuya o de tu nick o avatar en el punto del puente del embarcadero de las coordenadas listadas. Si quieres tocar el agua y emular a los barqueros (en el WP3), cuando los campos de arroz están anegados, puedes fotografiarte caña en mano gritando “Perxa, Tono, perxa”.

El Palmar, a little village located in the heart of the natural paradise of the Albufera, was the setting for the novel ‘Cañas y barro’ by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. It is a great story with unforgettable characters such as Tío Paloma, Neleta, Sangonera, Samaruca, Canyamel... which describes the customs of this area at the beginning of the 20th century with dazzling realism. Anyone who has seen it or read it will have a vivid memory of some of its most shocking scenes, such as Sangonera's fatal binge or Tonet's crime.

But El Palmar, without abandoning its traditional activities of fishing and rice cultivation, has managed to incorporate a tourist offer of restaurants and leisure activities that make it one of the most unique and attractive places in the region.

An ideal destination to enjoy the Albufera Natural Park from the shore or on a boat trip, to admire a barraca (see WP1), a traditional building from the area, which is still standing, or to enjoy its rich cuisine with all i pebre, llisa adobada or, of course, paella in the cradle of Valencian rice. There is a free car park (see WP2) and you can get there by public transport on the EMT line 24. To see nature in all its splendour, the best months to visit El Palmar are from May to July and from November to February. In March and April the rice fields are dry, but the views are always breathtaking.

Logging requirements:

To log a find on this virtual cache, in the following order you must walk around the village and its surroundings, discovering its paths, tancats and barracas while getting hungry. Continue imitating Sangonera but without going overboard. And finish off with a boat ride at sunset when the twilight tinges the lake with magic. But since this is a lot of fun and we geocachers are lazy, all you have to do is upload a photo of yourself or your nickname or avatar at the point of the jetty bridge at the published coordinates. If you want to touch the water and emulate the boatmen (in WP3), when the rice fields are flooded, you can take a picture of yourself holding a rod and shouting ‘Perxa, Tono, perxa’.
