Geocache Description:

The bronze statue of Jack Riley, the Upper Murray's Man from Snowy River was unveiled in 2010.

The funds for the statue were raised by The Man from Snowy River Tourist Association. The community of the Upper Murray supported the various fund raising activities that enabled the MFSR Tourist Association to raise this money. Fund raising included many street stalls, raffles and the sale of pavers to community members.  which are now in place in Attree Park, My gran parents have a brick in place and I love it..

The statue of Jack Riley now stands proudly at the gateway to Attree Park in Corryong, just outside the Corryong Visitor Information Centre. It provides a great photo opportunity and receives many visitors each year.

The story of the real Jack Riley can be found at The Man from Snowy River Museum in Corryong. Highly worth the visit and I certainly reccomed that you go for a look.

Banjo Patterson penned his poem "The Man from Snowy River" after meeting Jack Riley and listening to his tales of chasing wild brumbies in the mountains. The Tourist Association has also produced an on-demand audio recording of Banjo Patterson's poem, which can be heard whilst standing near to the statue.

The Man from Snowy River Bush Festival, held on the first weekend of April each year, celebrates Jack Riley and all the stockmen and women of the high country. Riley's Ride is an event held each year where guests re-trace Jack Riley's last ride from his home at Tom Groggin to Corryong.

Now I have timed the release of this Virtual to happen when This years festival is happeneing, just as a bit of fun for me. I cant wait for the visitors and the Photos to flow.
