Benvenuti a San Marino, la più antica Repubblica del mondo!
Questa Virtual vuole mostrarvi alcuni dei posti più belli del centro storico di San Marino, passando per angoli più o meno conosciuti e facendovi scoprire qualcosa di nuovo sul mio splendido paese. Quindi non ci resta che metterci un paio di scarpe comode, prendere una macchina fotografica e goderci la camminata!
PER LOGGARE: inviatemi via messaggio privato le risposte a ogni task e allegate nel vostro log TUTTE le foto richieste. Non è necessario mostrare il volto; è sufficiente una foto con il vostro nick e/o un vostro TB. I log che non rispetteranno i requisiti verranno cancellati. Le foto possono essere come queste:
Le coordinate iniziali vi portano di fronte al Palazzo Pubblico, ovvero il nostro Palazzo del Governo. E' sicuramente uno dei simboli principali del paese, nonchè la sede degli organi isitituzionali e amministrativi. La struttura è relativamente recente: venne inaugurata nel 1894 e restaurata 100 anni dopo, sotto la guida dell'architetto Gae Aulenti. Di fronte al Palazzo Pubblico si trova la Statua della Libertà: risale al 1876 ed è stata commissionata dalla nobildonna tedesca Ottilia Heyroth Wagener la quale, successivamente, la donò a San Marino come simbolo di libertà.
TASK WP1: scattate una foto di fronte al Palazzo Pubblico, includendo anche la Statua della Libertà. Poi entrate sotto il porticato del Palazzo Pubblico (WP1): sulla vostra destra, sul muro, troverete il busto di Francesco Azzurri (Francisco Azzurrio). Sul bordo inferiore del busto è inciso il nome dello scultore: G. _______ . Inviami in privato il cognome dell'artista.
Continuate la vostra camminata verso la Pieve, ovvero la Basilica di San Marino. Guardando verso sinistra, in fondo, troverete una piccola abitazione con numero civico 1, collegata alla Basilica. Si tratta dell'abitazione di Antonio Onofri. Onofri è stato una figura di rilievo per San Marino: prima fu segretario generale della Repubblica, poi ricoprì l'incarico di Capitano Reggente, ovvero capo di stato, per ben 7 volte. Egli contribuì a salvaguardare l'indipendenza del paese grazie alle sue abili doti da diplomatico.
TASK WP2: scatta una foto di fronte alla casa di Antonio Onofri. Alle coordinate ti troverai sopra un tombino: cosa è inciso sul bordo inferiore? NF...? Inviami le risposte complete in privato.
Di fianco alla casa di Antonio Onofri, c'è la Basilica di San Marino. E' l'edificio religioso più grande della Repubblica, al cui interno vi sono conservate le reliquie del Santo Marino, il fondatore della Repubblica. Salite fino al WP3 dove si trovano gli Orti Borghesi. Da qua avrete una bellissima vista sulla Pieve, lontano dai turisti.
TASK WP3: scatta una foto dalle coordinate del WP3 e inviami in privato la scritta incisa sul vicino lampione della luce.
Proseguendo la camminata in salita, si raggiunge la prima Torre, chiamata Guaita. Tra la prima e la seconda Torre si attraversa il famoso Passo delle Streghe. Da qui si ha una spettacolare vista sulle colline circostanti, fino al mare Adriatico. Nei giorni di bel tempo si può addirittura vedere la Croazia! L'origine del nome del posto si perde però nella notte dei tempi ed è avvolto dal mistero. Prendetevi un attimo di tempo per ammirare la posizione unica in cui vi trovate.
TASK WP4: scatta una foto dalle coordinate verso la Torre Cesta e inviami in privato il numero di panchine che vedi al WP4.
Dal Passo delle Streghe ora si può solo scendere! Proseguite il percorso fino al WP5 e arriverete all'ingresso dell'antico Ghetto Ebraico. Avreste mai immaginato di trovarne uno anche a San Marino? Proprio all'ingresso del Vicolo dei Forni, vi troverete di fronte a una stele che commemora la comunità che visse in questo angolo nascosto del centro.
TASK WP5: scatta una foto alla stele e inviami in privato i due numeri civici delle abitazioni sulla tua destra.
Proseguendo con la camminata, arriverai alla Porta di San Francesco, conosciuta dai sammarinesi soprattutto come Porta del Paese. Costruita nel 1361 e modificata col passare dei secoli più volte, attraversandola si arriva al cuore del centro storico.
TASK WP6: scattati una foto alla Porta del Paese poi fermati dentro la porta. Entrando nella porta, sulla sinistra, c'è un'iscrizione. Inviami le prime due parole dell'ultima riga.
La camminata è quasi giunta alla conclusione. Riprendi la salita e raggiungi la Cava dei Balestrieri. Nacque alla fine dell' '800 come cava da cui estrarre la pietra per restaurare il Palazzo Pubblico e successivamente quest'area venne usata per le competizioni con le balestre. Se passate per San Marino il 3 settembre, giorno della nostra festa nazionale, potete assistere al Palio delle Balestre Grandi, dove decine di tiratori si sfidano in questa antica arte.
TASK WP7: scattati una foto con la Cava alle tue spalle. Sopra la grande scritta a ferro battuto, sulla destra, c'è una lapide su cui è scolpito un grande numero a due cifre. Inviami il numero in privato.
Dopo tante salite e altrettante discese, hai finalmente raggiunto la fine della tua passeggiata! Spero che hai potuto scoprire qualcosa in più sulla storia di San Marino e che ti sei goduto una bella camminata nel nostro centro storico Patrimonio Mondiale dell'Umanità UNESCO.

This Virtual cache wants to show you some of the most beautiful spots in the historical center of San Marino, passing through the lesser-known corners. I hope you can discover something new about my country! So let's get it started and let's begin our walk!
HOW TO LOG THIS VIRTUAL: send me a private message with the answers for EVERY task and attach ALL the pictures in your log. You don't need to show your face: a photo with your nick or a TB is enough. Logs that don't fulfill these requirements will be cancelled without further notice. The photos can be like the following ones:
The starting coordinates will lead you in front of Palazzo Pubblico, which is our Palace of Government. It is clearly one of the most important symbols of San Marino and the seat of the main institutional and administrative bodies. The building is relatively new: it was opened in 1894 and restored 100 years later, thanks to the intervention of the famous Italian architect Gae Aulenti. In front of Palazzo Pubblico you can find our Statua della Libertà - i.e. Statue of Libery: it dates back to 1876 and it has been commissioned by Ottilia Heyroth Wagener, a German noblewoman. She then gave it to the Republic of San Marino as a symbol of liberty.
TASK WP1: take a photo in front of Palazzo Pubblico, including the Statua della Libertà. Then enter under the arcade of Palazzo Pubblico (WP1): on the wall on your right, you can find the bust of Francesco Azzurri (Francisco Azzurrio). On the lower side of the bust, it's engraved the name of the sculptor: G. _______ . Send me in private the surname of the sculptor.
Continue your walk towards the Pieve, that is the Basilica di San Marino. Looking on your left, almost behind the church, you can find a small house with street number 1. It's Antonio Onofri's house. Onofri was a prominent figure for San Marino: first he was general secretary, then Captain Regent, that is our head of State, for 7 times. He contributed to protect the independence of his country thanks to his great skills as a diplomat.
TASK WP2: take a photo in front of the house of Antonio Onofri. At the coordinates you'll find yourself standing on a sort of manhole. What is written on the lower part of it? NF...? Send me the complete answer in private.
Next to the house of Antonio Onofri, you can find the Basilica di San Marino. It's the biggest religious monument of the country: inside, you can find the remains of Saint Marino, the founder of the Republic. Go up until you reach WP3: here you'll find yourself in Orti Borghesi and you have a wonderful view over the Basilica, far from the tourists.
TASK WP3: Take a photo from the coordinates of WP3 and send me in private the writing carved on the lamppost.
Continuing our walk upwards, you arrive at the first Tower, also called Guaita. Between the first and the second tower you cross the famous Passo delle Streghe - i.e. The Witches' Path. From there, you can admire the surrounding hills until the Adriatic Sea. When the sky is clear and there's no fog, you can even see Croatia! The origin of the place's name is currently unknown. Now, take a minute to admire the landscape around you!
TASK WP4: take a photo towards the Second tower and send me in private the number of benches you see at WP4.
From the Witches' Path now it's all downwards! Go down until you reach WP5 and you arrive at the entrance of the Jewish Ghetto. Did you ever imagin to find one of them even in San Marino? Right at the entrance of Vicolo dei Forni, you'll find yourself in front of a stele made of stone that commemorates the Jewish community who lived in this hidden corner of the historical center.
TASK WP5: take a photo at the stele and send me in private the two house numbers that you see on your right.
Going on with your walk, you'll arrive at Porta di San Francesco, also known as Porta del Paese. It was built in 1361 and transformed several times over the centuries. If you go through it, you'll enter (or go out of) the historical center.
TASK WP6: take a photo in front of the Porta del Paese, next to the policeman, then stop inside the gate. Entering through the gate and going towards the center, on the wall on the left, you'll find an inscription carved in stone. Send me the first two words of the last line.
Your walk is almost over. Go upwards again and reach Cava dei Balestrieri. It was created at the end of XIX century as a cave where people mined the stone to restore Palazzo Pubblico. Later this area has been used for crossbow competitions, up until today. If you happen to be in San Marino on 3rd September, San Marino's national holiday, you can see the Palio delle Balestre Grandi, where dozens of crossbow shooters take part in a century-old competition.
TASK WP7: take a photo with the Cava in the background. Above the big iron writing, on the right, you can find a stone inscription with a big number with two digits. Send me the two-digit number in private.
After soooo many ups and downs, you are finally at the end of this walk! I hope you discovered something new about the history of San Marino and you had a nice time in our city center, UNESCO World Heritage Site!
