Tutti passano per i navigli ma ben pochi conoscono alcuni segreti, quali sono 🤷♀️🤷♂️ ?
ll Ponte del Trofeo si trova all'inizio del Naviglio Pavese, appena superata la Darsena, e prende il nome da un monumento costruito in epoca spagnola, denominato “Trofeo di Fuentes”. Questo nome rende onore a Don Pietro Enriquez de Acevedo, conte di Fuentes, che fu governatore dello Stato di Milano e svolse un ruolo fondamentale nel rilanciare e promuovere il completamento del Naviglio Pavese, un progetto rimasto incompiuto per anni.
Storicamente, il Naviglio è servito come rete di trasporto cruciale. I canali consentivano un'efficiente circolazione delle merci in tutta la città. Tuttavia, questo metodo di trasporto iniziò a decadere nella prima metà dell'Ottocento con l'avvento delle ferrovie.

È interessante notare che questo vicolo prende il nome dai lavandai piuttosto che dalle lavandaie, poiché nell'Ottocento erano gli uomini a svolgere questo lavoro, organizzati in corporazioni.
Il ruscello che costeggia il vicolo, detto “el fossett”, è alimentato dalle acque del Naviglio Grande. Qui i lavatori strofinavano i panni con una tavola di legno chiamata “el fossett”.

Everyone passes through the Navigli but very few know some secrets, what are they 🤷♀️🤷♂️ ?
The Ponte del Trofeo (Trophy Bridge) is located at the beginning of the Naviglio Pavese, just past the Darsena, and takes its name from a monument built in Spanish times, called the ‘Trophy of Fuentes’. This name honours Don Pietro Enriquez de Acevedo, Count of Fuentes, who was governor of the State of Milan and played a fundamental role in relaunching and promoting the completion of the Naviglio Pavese, a project that remained unfinished for years.
Historically, the Naviglio served as a crucial transport network. The canals allowed for the efficient circulation of goods throughout the city. However, this method of transport began to decline in the first half of the 19th century with the advent of the railways.
Today, visitors can experience the Navigli in a unique way thanks to 🚤 boat trips 🚤 that follow the ancient routes once travelled by barges. This provides a special view of Milan from the water, revealing scenes that tell stories of bygone days.
For antiques enthusiasts, every last Sunday of the month there is an appointment not to be missed: the 🕰 Mercatone dell'Antiquariato 🕰s on the Naviglio Grande. This market extends along the Ripa di Porta Ticinese and the Alzaie, transforming the area into a lively centre of history and tradition.
The Navigli area was also at the centre of the life of 📚Alda Merini 📚, one of the most important poets of the 20th century. Her deep connection with the Navigli is evident in her poetry, where this place serves as inspiration and refuge.
Another historical landmark of the Navigli is the 🧼Vicolo dei Lavandai 🧼 , essential for anyone wishing to explore the traditions of Milan. Interestingly, this alley takes its name from the lavandai (launderers) rather than from the lavandaie (washerwomen), since in the 19th century it was men who did this work, organised into guilds.
The stream that runs alongside the alley, called ‘el fossett’, is fed by the waters of the Naviglio Grande. Here, the washers rubbed their clothes with a wooden board called ‘el fossett’.
