Galway Cathedral 

Located on Nun’s Island, on the west bank of the River Corrib near Salmon Weir Bridge, Galway Cathedral is one of Galway's most significant and most dominating buildings. Construction of the Cathedral began in 1958 and was completed in 1965. It is located on the site of the former city jail and features a dome at a height of 145ft. It was the last large church in Ireland to be made from stone and features a vast octagonal dome that complements the skyline of the City of Galway. Inside, the visitor will find rose windows and wall paintings, which echo the broad tradition of Christian art and are awe-inspiring.

Galway City Cathedral is free to access, but visitors are asked to contribute €2 to support the building’s maintenance. People are requested not to enter the cathedral during daily mass unless they desire to participate.

Music

Every Sunday at 10:30 a.m., a dedicated volunteer adult choir enchants the congregation with musical voices during mass and other significant events. Additionally, during July and August, the cathedral hosts a series of captivating summer concerts every Thursday at 8:00 p.m. These concerts offer a delightful medley of music genres, from Gregorian chants to traditional Irish tunes.

• If you are in a group, you can write all the usernames on one page or all be in the same photo, but each posts a picture in your log.
• Your photo must be taken on either the Salmon Weir Bridge or the Salmon Weir Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge. GZ is on the Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge, and the Salmon Weir bridge is the neighbouring bridge.
• Attach that photo to your log.
