Tantangara Reservoir
Tantangara Dam is a major ungated concrete gravity dam with concrete chute spillway across the Murrumbidgee River in Tantangara, upstream of Adaminaby in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales, Australia. The dam is part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, a vast hydroelectricity and irrigation complex constructed in south-east Australia between 1949 and 1974 and now run by Snowy Hydro. The purpose of the dam includes water management and conservation, with much of the impounded headwaters diverted to Lake Eucumbene. You will see a lot of work happening as the dam is crucial for the new Snowy 2.0 initiative.
Tantangara is a special place that our family have been visiting for many years camping and trout fishing, theres much too see in the area other than the dam itself including, Currango Homestead, Coolamine Homestead and the Blue waterholes via Long Plain Road you will no doubt see many brumbies and other wildlife along the way.
Important info
- This cache is accessible via the Snowy Mountains Hwy, turning onto Tantangara Road then taking a right up to the Radio Tower please see the waypoint that indicates the turn off as this is an unamed road. a 4x4 is recommended paricuarly in Winter where snow is likely. However, you may choose to park and walk from here it's roughly 800m each way and a steady climb.
- Phone reception is limited, so please come prepared and I recommend having the cache's info downloaded for offline use
- Between June and October long weekends Tantangara road is the only way to access this cache as Long Plain Rd is closed for Winter.

Please attach to your log a photo overlooking the dam that clearly identifys your caching name and date of your visit, logs that do not meet this requirement will be deleted.
