The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion, near Bendigo, Victoria, boasts a base of 50 meters square and a height of nearly 50 meters, making it the largest stupa in the Southern Hemisphere.
This magnificent structure gives me the same emotional response as I had when I saw Uluru for the first time. The sense of being in their presence is magical. Although photos can be very captivating of both, being there, sharing the same space, is almost indescribable. A really moving experience and a favorite place for us to visit.
Inside the Stupa, the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace stands as the largest Buddha crafted from gemstone-grade jade globally, captivating observers with its remarkable size and exquisite craftsmanship. This awe-inspiring statue is meticulously sculpted from a scarce boulder of translucent jade known as "Polar Pride," unearthed in Canada in 2000. Rising 2.5 meters tall, the Jade Buddha rests upon an alabaster throne nearly 1.6 meters in height. Weighing approximately 4 tons, the Jade Buddha is deemed priceless, embodying both magnificence and rarity.
