One of the must-do things when you're in Singapore is to try the local food. Commonly called a "melting pot" of flavours and aromas, Singapore offers an eclectic array of dishes - such as those from Chinese, Indian, Malaysian and Indonesian cuisines. It's a microcosm of Singapore's multicultural society! Such foods are most commonly seen in hawker centres in Singapore, which are open-air complexes that house many food stalls. These foods, as well as hawker centres, form an integral part of the Singaporean way of life, where people from all walks of life dine and bond over their favourite hawker food. So much so, that the hawker culture has been officially inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity!
Let's go to one hawker centre where you can experience such a culture - arguably Singapore's most famous and iconic :)
About Lau Pa Sat

Experience Singapore's unique food culture housed within one of the most monumental structures in Singapore - Lau Pa Sat! Built in the 19th century, this national monument was once a wet market on the waterfront. By the early 1970s, the area had transformed into a major commercial and financial district, and so the building had to transform as well - into a hawker centre which you see today. Have a look at the various cuisines on offer, or even come here at night! The area outside Lau Pa Sat transforms into what is known as Satay Street @ Lau Pa Sat, where you can immerse yourself in alfresco dining, eating satay and enjoying the atmosphere.
