Welcome to Puerto Natales, gateway to Torres del Paine National Park at the very South of Chile! It is the capital of both the commune of Natales and the province of Última Esperanza, one of the four provinces that make up the Magallanes and Antartica Chilena Region in the southernmost part of Chile.

Maybe this beautiful piece of art will captivate you just as it did with me - having just been granted the opportunity to place another Virtual Cache, this seemed to me a worthy location considering also the scarcity of cache opportunities in this part of the world…
“Amores de Viento” (“Lovers of the Wind”) or „Monumento al Viento“ („Monument to the Wind“) standing here so prominently and photographed surely by every tourist to the port town on Plaza del Viento of Puerto Natales, was designed and created by Chilean sculptor Marcela Romagnoli Espinosa. The national monument was inaugurated on June 1, 2012, celebrating the 101st anniversary of the founding of the city.
She reflected in this work an architectural tribute to the wind that is characteristic of this city. These are two bronze human figures weighing approximately 1/2 ton each, which are suspended from two steel arches 9 meters high.
Marcela Romagnoli has a degree in Art with a major in Sculpture from the University of Chile. She works with a wide variety of materials, paying special attention to the work processes. “I love materials and their versatility, I love marble with its whiteness and strength, native, organic and deep wood, magical and intriguing salt, cold and noble metals, and finally ice as another material to begin to discover in its icy and ephemeral transparency…. My sculptures are very expressionist, I think a bit of Rodin's work.“
