Stanisław Lem (1921-2006) był jednym z czołowych pisarzy SF. Najbardziej znany jest z powieści takich jak "Solaris", "Cyberiada" i "Kongres futurologiczny". W swoich dziełach często poruszał tematy związane z przyszłością technologii, sztuczną inteligencją, podróżami kosmicznymi oraz kontaktami z obcą cywilizacją, w swojej twórczości potrafił zgrabnie łączyć filozoficzne refleksje z absurdalnymi, humorystycznymi sytuacjami.
Zadziwiająco trafnie przewidział technologie takie jak e-papier, audiobooki, internet, pendrive czy druk 3D. Do inspiracji jego twórczością przyznają się m.in. twórca gry The Sims Will Wright, czy scenarzysta serialu Futurama, David X Cohen. Jego wizje przyszłości nadal pozostają aktualne i inspirujące dla kolejnych pokoleń czytelników.
W 1981r odebrał tytuł doktora honoris causa Politechniki Wrocławskiej, od 2021r jest tam przyznawana Europejska Nagroda Naukowa im. Stanisława Lema.

His works often dealt with themes related to the future of technology, artificial intelligence, space travel and contact with alien civilisations. In his works he was able combine philosophical reflections with absurd, humorous situations.
He predicted technologies such as e-paper, audiobooks, the internet, flash drives and 3D printing with astonishing accuracy. Among those who have admitted to being inspired by his work are The Sims game creator Will Wright and Futurama scriptwriter David X Cohen. His visions of the future remain relevant and inspiring to generations of readers.
He received an honorary doctorate from the Wrocław University of Technology in 1981, and since 2021 the Stanisław Lem European Science Prize has been awarded there.
