A pochi passi da via Padova, una delle più trafficate vie milanesi, potete trovare un'inattesa oasi di tranquillità in cui il tempo sembra essersi fermato a qualche secolo fa. E' il borgo di via Berra, costituito dalla chiesa di Santa Maria Rossa, dalla casa natale della famiglia Berra (via Berra 10) e da alcune case limitrofe. Insieme formano un piccolo borgo a se stante rispetto al nucleo storico di Crescenzago.
La chiesa, fondata dai Canonici Lateranensi intorno al 1140, è un eccellente esempio di romanico lombardo e conserva al suo interno un interessante ciclo di affreschi medievali dall’iconografia rarissima: ispirati ai Vangeli apocrifi e dal forte influsso romano-bizantino, i dipinti rappresentano la singolare scena dell’Annunciazione della Morte di Maria.
Fuori dalla chiesa, lungo l’asse dell’attuale via Berra, si scoprono con stupore ancora presenti i resti del cuore dell’antico borgo che era caratterizzato dall’importante presenza di un convento agostiniano di cui si conserva ancora un bellissimo chiostro Quattrocentesco, vicoli e scorci che sembrano sospesi in un tempo antico.
Nelle immediate vicinanze del borgo, tornando in via Padova, si arriva all’antico Municipio e si incontra il Naviglio Martesana che dalla seconda metà del 1400 impreziosisce Crescenzago. Sarà proprio con la costruzione del “Naviglio Piccolo” che il borgo, collocato vicino alle strade di collegamento con Milano e arricchito dalla moderna via d’acqua, diventerà meta di scampagnate fuori porta e inizierà ad essere conosciuto con il nome di “Riviera di Milano”.
Una passeggiata lungo il Naviglio Martesana vi permetterà di ammirare alcune delle bellissime ville costruite per la villeggiatura dei milanesi benestanti come villa Petrovic, villa De Ponti, villa Lecchi.

Per validare il vostro log dovete caricare una vostra foto che mostri la facciata della chiesa e in cui siete riconoscibili (potete mostrare il viso oppure qualcosa con scritto sopra il vostro nickname). La foto deve essere scattata nella piazzetta antistante la chiesa in corrispondenza delle coordinate del waypoint. Altre foto del borgo o della chiesa sono benvenute ma non necessarie.

Close to Via Padova, one of the busiest streets in Milan, you can find an unexpected oasis of tranquility where time seems to have stopped a few centuries ago. It is the burg of via Berra, made up of the church of Santa Maria Rossa, the birthplace of the Berra family (via Berra 10) and some neighboring houses. Together they form a small village separate from the historic center of Crescenzago.
The church, founded by the Lateran Canons around 1140, is an excellent example of Lombard Romanesque and preserves inside an interesting cycle of medieval frescoes with very rare iconography: inspired by the apocryphal Gospels and by the strong Roman-Byzantine influence, the paintings represent the singular scene of the Annunciation of the Death of Mary.
Outside the church, along the axis of the current via Berra, you can discover the remains of the heart of the ancient village which was characterized by the important presence of an Augustinian convent of which a beautiful 15th century cloister, alleys are still preserved and glimpses that seem suspended in an ancient time.
In the immediate vicinity of the village, returning to Via Padova, you arrive at the ancient Town Hall and you come across the Naviglio Martesana which has embellished Crescenzago since the second half of the 1400s. It will be precisely with the construction of the "Naviglio Piccolo" that the village, located near the roads connecting to Milan and enriched by the modern waterway, will become a destination for out-of-town excursions and will begin to be known by the name of "Milan Riviera ”.
A walk along the Naviglio Martesana will allow you to admire some of the beautiful villas built for the holidays of wealthy Milanese people such as Villa Petrovic, Villa De Ponti, Villa Lecchi.

The photo must be taken in the small square in front of the church at the coordinates of the waypoint. Other photos of the village or church are welcome but not necessary.
