Adventuring out in the Australian high country is just amazing. Rocky tors, wild flowers, rugged horizons and glacial lakes abound. Doing it with family and friends is even better!
For New Year 2024, Abstaria and GEOJoh set out to ascend the Top 15 Australian Peaks together. We managed to hike 11 of the top 15 peaks over three days until mega thunderstorms and rain forced an earlier retreat than planned. Up this high the storm isn't above you, it's right on you - intense! Better safe than sorry.
This virtual is in memory of our awesome hike together and encourage others to see this amazing area. As weather can be mercurial up here, this virtual challenge is to hike one of the highest peaks from each of the four main clusters covering ~50km and thousands of metres of elevation:
1. North Rams Head (2,177m)
2. Mt Kosciusko (2,228m)
3. Mt Townsend (2,209m)
4. Mt Twynham (2,195m)
Then log a find for this virtual cache with a thumbs up at your favourite peak (ho need to show your face - hand or cache name item fine). Optional bonus kudos for a short summary of how many of the top peaks you climbed, what made you smile and any noteworthy nature you observed.
