TORRE DEGLI OROLOGI - PIAZZA DELLA LIBERTA'
La torre, che funge da campanile anche per la confinante Collegiata di San Francesco, si presenta con quattro quadranti: il primo in alto indica le fasi lunari, il secondo (la meridiana meccanica a quadrante) segna le ore “all’italiana”, il terzo (l’orologio astronomico) segna le ore ed i minuti, il quarto (l’orologio calendario) indica i giorni della settimana e del mese. Sotto l’ultimo quadrante, esiste una piccola meridiana solare che serviva al “moderatore” per rimettere l’orologio astronomico. L’orologio batte le ore ed i quarti. CLOCK TOWER - FREEDOM SQUARE
The tower, which also serves as a bell tower for the neighboring Collegiate Church of San Francesco, has four dials: the first at the top indicates the phases of the moon, the second (the mechanical dial sundial) marks the "Italian-style" hours, the the third (the astronomical clock) indicates the hours and minutes, the fourth (the calendar clock) indicates the days of the week and the month. Under the last dial, there is a small sundial which was used by the "moderator" to reset the astronomical clock. The clock strikes the hours and quarters.
