Welcome to another addition to the popular church micros series except this is a "church regular". The cache is not at the coordinates but it is very close by and has been placed with the assistance of members of the church. You can work out the location of the cache by solving the formula below.
First a bit about the church.
After Rev'd John Wesley first preached in Kendal in the mid-1700s, the numbers of Methodists in the area grew and grew. They met in a variety of places including the Old Playhouse which is now the Working Men’s Institute in Market Place. 50 years later the site of this church was bought for £119-6s-0d and the first Stricklandgate Methodist Chapel (see cache gallery) was built to accommodate 400 people
After another 80 years it was demolished to make way for the much bigger church building that you see today. It accommodated 800 worshippers and used the stone from the old chapel. In the 1980s with reduced numbers and the building needing attention, it was completely redeveloped with a smaller worship area inside and lots of rooms created for community groups to meet. The original gallery is still in place. The beautiful old organ was sent to All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi, Kenya.
The church now hosts guides and scouts, choirs, knitting groups and more, as well regular church services. Perhaps the only disadvantage of the rearrangement is that the building is not really suitable for visitors other than at services or by special arrangement.
