Geocache Description:

JBECK2 LEAPS INTO CARW2024

Continued Misadventures of Jbeck2 - the Newbie Geocacher

Well, another year, another attempt at placing a cache without running afoul of the CARW rules… I had decided to create a cache based on a new Jbeck2 Tik-Tok dance challenge: “The Geocaching Leapfrog”.

Some might argue that this is a contrived attempt to somehow make the cache fit the theme. That may be so, but it’s not THAT much more of a reach than the name Biosector picked for the Wrap-Up event, so I figure I’m safe.

Anyhow, back to the cache…

THE LOCATION:

Location is always tricky. I never quite get this “winter friendly” thing. In the CARW hiding rules it says “If you wouldn’t hunt for it in -30, it probably shouldn’t be a CARW cache.”

Minus THIRTY?

The only places I’d go in -30 are my bed, and possibly my hot-tub – but I couldn’t hide a cache there, because encountering a fellow geocacher in either of those two locations might prove awkward.

I decided I’d have to bend that rule slightly – and hide the cache outside.

THE HIDE:

Since this was supposed to be easy to find, all you have to do is get to ground zero and perform the following dance.

 THE GEOCACHING LEAPFROG
(Sung to the tune of the Hokey-Pokey.)
(Start at ground zero facing toward the lake.)

You put your Right hand on the sign,
Then you squat down like a frog,
Now reach under with your Left,
Find the cache and sign the log,
 You do the Geocaching Leapfrog,
 And you turn yourself around,
Then slip and fall on the ground.
 (thud)

If you’re caching with a group, it might be a good idea to have someone video the song/dance number – or at least take photos. Spoilers are ABSOLUTELY allowed in photos for this cache.

Regarding the FTF – Whoever manages to sign their name at the top of the logbook will have the honour of performing the Geocaching Leapfrog Dance at the CARW2024 wrap-up event.

THE PUZZLE:

Since in order to successfully execute the “Geocaching Leapfrog Dance” requires that you know where ground zero IS, that brings us to the puzzle.

The rules indicated it should be an easy puzzle. No problem here – I’m known far and wide for having very straightforward puzzles.

This one was no exception. I printed the northing and westing on a piece of paper, and cut it up in little brick shapes.

All you would have to do is arrange the yellow parts into the Northing (which I had HOPED to post on this page), and the Westing will be underneath in the green parts.

Simple right?

That’s when the trouble started…

I was carrying the paper back into the jbeck2 bat-cave to take a picture of it, when I tripped over the dog, who was having her daily hand-to-hand combat ritual against the Roomba.

The paper went everywhere, and I couldn’t figure out what the Northing was supposed to be…

So… errr… I guess you’ll have to figure out the Northing AND the Westing somehow. Or just sorta look around – it’s less than 1.5 KM from the posted coordinates of course – so it shouldn’t take THAT long to find. Just get out there and start dancing!

Ummmm… Sorry about all this. I really tried this time…
