Welcome to the new and improved Kennett Square Bayard Taylor Memorial Library - constructed and opened in 2023. With permission from library staff, I present to you a Geocache. You will need to enter the library to access it, so please check their hours of operation before embarking. I know you will be respectful of the people and property here.
This letterbox cache can be found in the Bayard Taylor room at the visible "FINAL" waypoint after visiting the other waypoints and solving the clues in the riddle below. The posted coordinates are where you will find your first clue, and it is also a great place to park. The cache can be identified by the GC code on the side and contains a logbook and plenty of room for swag and trackables that you are encouraged to trade. As is required with any letterbox, it also contains a stamp and inkpad. PLEASE LEAVE THESE ITEMS IN THE CACHE. Stealth may be a factor here depending on the time of day. If someone sees you, I encourage you to share more about this great hobby! Please replace everything as you found it.
Again - Using your GPS, navigate to the waypoints to solve the clues in the riddle below and acquire the information that will be necessary to open the cache. Good luck and have fun!
"Begin Your Journey Here" at STAGE ONE
A mural rises before you and it's pretty well done
Historical figures and culture abounds -
What you should take note of is the NUMBER OF HOUNDS
A hound on the hunt awaits at STAGE TWO
Sniffing for something it hopes to pursue
Before the hound sprints to the creature it found
Observe HOW MANY OF ITS FEET TOUCH THE GROUND
On to STAGE THREE - careful as you pass
Something is stalking around in the grass
What a surprise! Is it predator or prey?
Hunting while being hunted? Oh, the dismay!
Oh well...c'est la vie...No time to be bitter
HOW MANY LETTERS IN THE NAME OF THIS CRITTER?
Proceed to STAGE FOUR - almost to the door!
Atop all the steps is where you should explore
Seek out the hare that the last creature sought
And tally the NUMBER OF BOOKS THE HARE BROUGHT
At last, at STAGE FIVE a cellist plays in the lobby
He's set all his books down to perform his hobby
On the bench nearby you should quietly peer
At THE NUMBER OF BOOKS HE HAS PLACED HERE
Now what to do with all five of these numbers?
Don't worry my friend, there is no need to wonder
Put them in line and tell me what you see...
HOW MANY ONES, HOW MANY TWOS, HOW MANY THREES?
These quantities, in order, reveal a three-digit code
That when you get to the final is important to know...
But where IS the final? That is the question...
I'll give you a hint, I have a suggestion
Enter the library, then south thirty feet
Look to your left, and there you will see
A grandiose room named for Mr. Bayard Taylor
Inside of this room you will find the container
On the large bookshelf of the south-facing wall
All the way to the right is where it's installed
In the bottomest corner, it's unusually bounded
AHA, there it is! Congratulations - YOU FOUND IT!
Now using the number you conjured before
Open the lock that will open the door
I am truly impressed, I will think of you highly
Now enjoy a nice rest, and savor your smiley!
