Geschiedenis van het Wildrijk
Ooit waren er in het westen van de Zijperpolder meerdere bosrijke buitenplaatsen van welgestelde Amsterdamse kooplieden. Ook het Wildrijk is aangelegd als buitenplaats. Later, tijdens het graven van het Noordhollandsch Kanaal, werd veel bos gekapt door kamperende arbeiders. Enkele stukjes bos bleven gespaard. Zo ook het Wildrijk. In 1940 werd het door aankoop veiliggesteld.
Blauw tapijt van hyacinten
Dit bos is heel bijzonder. Goed voor een wandeling van een klein uur, juist in het voorjaar. Dan is de bodem zover je kunt kijken bedekt met een blauw tapijt van wilde hyacinten. Hier en daar zijn schakeringen van roze en wit, afgewisseld met het frisse groen van jonge varens. Bovendien bloeien in de buurt van de boswachterswoning enkele hoekjes wilde witte narcissen. In de zomer vindt u er verkoeling en in het najaar zijn er veel paddenstoelen te vinden.
Schoon water uit de duinen
Andere bijzondere planten die er bloeien zijn de knikkende vogelmelk en de voorjaarszonnebloem. Zingende zwartkoppen, tuinfluiters en soms wielewalen maken dit lentesprookje compleet. Met een bijzonder soort gemaal, een tonmolen, wordt het water op peil gehouden. Dat water komt door een zogenaamde ‘schoonwatersloot’ rechtstreeks uit de duinen. Daarmee is het Wildrijk een van de allermooiste natuurgebieden van Landschap Noord-Holland.

History of “het Wildrijk”
Once upon a time in the west of the Zijper polder (reclaimed land) there were plenty of forestry areas (private parcs) owned by wealthy tradesmen from Amsterdam. The Wildrijk is also designed as private parc. While they were digging the Noordhollandsch Canal, a lot of forest was cut down by camping workers. Just a few patches of forest were spared, including the Wildrijk. In 1940 it was bought to keep the forest safe.
These woods are very special. Great if you’re up for a walk of about 45 minutes. It’s especially beautiful in the Spring, because of the carpet of wild, blue Hyacinths. There are even hints of pink and white, between the bright green of the young ferns. Near the forest rangers house, you can find a few wild, white daffodil flowers. When its summer these woods can be very cooling and in the Fall you can find mushrooms there.
Other spectacular plants that you can find are the Drooping Star of Bethlehem and the sunflowers. The singing birds make it extra magical. The water level is maintained with a special type of pumping station, a barrel mill. That water comes directly from the dunes through a so-called clean water ditch. This makes The Wildrijk one of the most beautiful nature reserves of North Holland.
