Geocache Description:

This is one of 66 geocaches that have been placed for the 2024 West Bend $1,000 Cache Ba$h, with this year’s theme being Around the Wold in 66 Caches. You’re looking for a cache placed in West Bend's Riverside Park. The cache is just off the main recreation trail. Watch out for disc golfers on the other side of the treeline & brush.  Dogs are allowed on a six foot leash or less. Parking available in the lot at N43 25.060 W88 10.265.

DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Death Valley National Park straddles the California–Nevada border, with a remarkable and legendary landscape that is alive with unmatched beauty characterized with miles and miles of huge sand dunes, technicolor rocks and canyons, rare and endemic wildlife, one-of-a-kind evaporative elements, and jaw-dropping peaks rising 11,000 feet above the valley below.

It’s the largest national park in the contiguous U.S., known for extreme heat and aridity. Notably, it contains Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, sitting 282 feet (86 meters) below sea level. Numerous geocaching challenges require geocachers to find a cache below sea level (or even 100 feet or more below sea level), and there are few places in the world where one can do this.

It is also the driest place in North America, with some areas receiving less than two inches of rain per year, and is the location of the highest temperature (134 °F) ever recorded in the United States. Over 93% of the park is designated wilderness, home to hardy desert plants, bighorn sheep, coyotes, and rattlesnakes.  Yet despite its rugged terrain, it remains one of the southwest's most popular tourist attractions.  The perfect place to find a geocache!

RIVERSIDE PARK

The opposite in many ways of Death Valley, there’s a lot to enjoy here in Riverside Park, located in West Bend along the Milwaukee River. The park’s scenic trails wind along the river and are popular for hiking and biking. There’s a pleasant, wooded picnic area and it’s a good location for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Visitors can also enjoy football, soccer, and softball fields; sand volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts and a 19-hole disc golf course.

We hope you enjoy your time in the park!
