• Pre-register on this Save Our Beach website, this helps speed up the check-in process.
• Gloves will be provided (recommended to bring your own)
• Close-toed shoes strongly encouraged
• Bags will be provided
• Pickers will be provided

Save Our Beach will be conducting a monthly beach clean-up on the 3rd Saturday of each month (except November, on 2nd Saturday) from 9am to Noon at the beach parking lot at the end of 1st Street in Seal Beach (Orange County). This Geocaching CITO event is tagging on to the Save Our Beach event. Clean-ups happen 'Rain or Shine’. In case Save Our Beach cancels their event, the CITO is automatically cancelled also. For example, if the beach is closed due to a tsunami warning.

Logistics

Pre-Registration: For group name you can use Geocaching CITO. Each adult participant must register separately. Minor children may register on a parent/guardian's registration. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. Register on the Save Our Beach website. In case Save Our Beach cancels the event they will send out a cancellation email to the email address you registered with.

Street Address and Parking: 15 1st Street, Seal Beach, CA 90740. Coordinates for parking as posted, the Marina may be your better option.

Check in at the Blue Canopy on the grass to receive a parking pass if you are parking in the lot next to the blue canopy - please ask for the pass. (required if you park in this parking lot. Ask for validity on 1st Street and other streets). When you park on the nearby streets pay attention to parking signs and time limits. Parking tickets are at least $65, and the parking enforcement visits frequently and tickets fast.

Gloves, Bags and Pickers: Save Our Beach provides bags and pickers, but feel free to bring your own.

Terrain Rating

The terrain rating is set at 4.0. If you stay on the sand, it would be 1.5 terrain. Note that the rocks can be very slippery and can be dangerous. The tide will not be particularly high or low during the event, but it will be receding and exposing more wet rocks. WET ROCKS ARE slippery, and may result in slips and possible injury. Wear adequate footwear. You may get wet. Protect yourself and your GPS or smartphone. Regarding the terrain rating, the choice is yours! Either way, bring plenty water and wear a hat and apply sunscreen.

Where You find the Geocacher Group

Cachers tend to spread out in a number of smaller groups along the jetty (the rocky area). Look for people wearing geocaching gear or apparel. Remember, you are one of us, and all cachers look alike. Posted coordinates are very approximate.

The Log

During previous CITO events we retrieved some "marvelous" items and used them as the event log and to frame the CITO group. The log will be a trashy treasure found during the CITO, what it will look like is unpredictable! Feel free to post your snap-shot pictures. Should you miss the group picture or log, no worries, just post a picture that shows you with the CITO bag or grabber at the beach. Please note that Geocaching.com does not require you to physically sign the log when attending a CITO event or post pictures. I have been toying with the idea of allowing the Finder of the Log to record an FTF. Thoughts on this? We can discuss on site.

Earning Your Smilie

Should you arrive late, or simply DNF the CITO crew (sometimes we blend in with the muggle crowd quite well), if you attended the Save Our Beach cleanup and filled a bag of trash you earned your smilie. Selfies are desired but not required.

Earning Community Service Hours

Students are eligible for up to three community service hours. Ask "Save our Beach" at the Blue Canopy in the parking lot for the paper you need.
