CUTTING, CLEARING AND BURNING WILLOW AT HORSBERE RESERVE
Parking: Suggested parking is in the car park at the provided coords, there is a footbridge to take you over to Horsbere Brook Reserve. Or if there is space you can park by the gates leading in to the Reserve (Parking area / Meet-up point).
Where: Meet up 09:30 by the main gates to Horsbere Reserve or after that find us in the pond, near the published coords. See waypoint for access path from the track.
What: We will be cutting and clearing willow that is growing in and around the pond. This is done on an annual basis to prevent it taking over and reducing the capacity of the flood storage pond. We shall also be having a bonfire and burning the stack of willow cut earlier in the winter.
How: The Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance and tools. Please bring work gloves if possible and if you wish to use your own tools (loppers, saw) please bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have tools as the Ranger will have a supply.
The work site can be very wet in places so please wear wellies or other suitable footwear, and also old clothes because of possible flying embers from the bonfire.
Health and Safety: The CITO session and will be covered by Council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction.
Please bring water and a drink / snack for breaktime. Homemade cake will be provided 🙂
