Common gorse (Ulex europaeus) is an evergreen shrub, characterised by its mass of spiky leaves and bright yellow flowers. It found widely across the UK in a variety of habitats and can grow to 3m tall. It flowers between January and June; being an early flowering species it is a particularly valuable source of nectar. Gorse flowers smell of coconut.
