Members of the genus Crepis are commonly known as Hawksbeard or Hawkโs-Beard. They look similar to dandelions, but the stems usually branch and have multiple flower heads. There are several closely related species in the UK, with the most common being the smooth hawksbeard, Crepis capillaris. This species has less hairy leaves than the other British species and yellow flowers which may have a paler yellow or pinkish stripe in the outer florets. The leaves usually form a rosette at the base of the stem. It is found in many habitats, including disturbed ground and is often found in lawns.
