Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

Hyacinthus orientalis is a spring flowering perennial which grows from a bulb. While native to the eastern Mediterranean and Afrotropical regions, they are now naturalised more widely, and are common garden plants, They have long narrow leaves and one to three spikes of clustered bell-like flowers, which are often highly scented and come in a variety of colours in cultivated variants. The name hyacinth derives from the Greek myth of Hyacinthus, a beautiful Spartan hero who was killed by the god Zephyrus, jealous of his relationship with Apollo, during a game of quoits. In grief, Apollo grew the flower from the blood of Hyacinthus, though the flower described in this myth is probably the Larkspur rather than what we call the hyacinth.
