In 1918, Weald Parish Council discussed calling a public meeting to consider how those that fell in the Great War should be commemorated. After a fund raising campaign, a stone cross located north of St George’s church was unveiled in March 1920.
Soon after this, a second tribute in the form of a village hall was proposed but it was not until 1959 that sufficient funds were available for it to be completed. The Memorial Hall was opened by Lord Sackville, it cost around £4,000 to build. In 1987 the hall was extended at a cost of £24,000 and further improvements including CCTV have been added recently.
There is a small car park and a children’s playground close by.
