Octavius Catto - ground breaking educator, gifted orator, tireless organizer, one of the first African-American militia officers, barrier-smashing sports star, talented intellectual, and uncompromising Civil Rights activist... he was a man of an incredible number of talents. He did more in his short 32 years upon the Earth than almost any Philadelphian of any age or time period .
Sadly, for decades, his life was all but forgotten by the city that he called home. Fortunately, that has begun to change in recent years. Take a walk through the Philadelphia streets where Catto lived and worked to learn about this amazing individual.
This lab is a 1 1/4 mile walk from the first to last stop. I've numbered the stops in a way that best tells his story, but that would require a MUCH longer walk with a lot of backtracking.
