Geocache Description:

26 March 2024, 10:00 - 11:00

Well by now we should really be able to see the difference that all of our hard work has done. If you have been to the CITO's before this one...THANK YOU!!!! None of this could happen without you heart

If you are just joining us...welcome and THANK YOU because you are going to be making a difference too and we appreciate all the help we can get.

I will post a short version of what I have put in the previous events just to keep everyone up to date about how this came about and what's going on but please read the part after heart

Saanich Parks acted really fast and went in, cut down and took away all the nasty, burly, overgrown, ouchy part of the invasive blackberry bushes and I was surprised looking at the results that it wasn't as bad as I thought.  What we need now is some brute strength to help get the roots out. (Don't worry if you don't have brute strength, cuz I surely don't, there is still lots of ivy in the area we can pull out) I can provide shovels, and a puller? (tho I have no idea what that does. I was just told it would help) and of course some yummy cookies and snacks.

Also, please let me know if there are other tools I can bring in (from the Saanich Parks tool shed laugh )

Pretty soon it will be nesting season and they will kick us out of the ivy areas. This area was ok'd by Saanich Parks to keep working in but here is another really cool reason for doing this besides getting rid of this invasive plant and making the entrance to the park more noticeable and inviting (mulch and plants are coming) BUT now that we have cleaned it up and opened it up and gotten rid of all that prickly stuff..maybe the birds will have a new, more comfortable place to build nests and that's a good thing heart

So thank you again for all of your help and I hope to see you again at this one and maybe, just maybe, instead of being a pet project of mine as lead steward of Sayward Hill Park...

it will have become a pet project of all the local cachers and Sayward community that have given their blood and sweat and laughter to making this park just a little more sweeter.

smiles and hugs and thank yous
