Geocache Description:

I have recently discovered this mighty ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) tree - A tree so magical it deserves more visitors. The tree was awarded a Tree Protection Order in 1995 and has added protection as it is located in a conservation area. The ginkgo is a deciduous tree, native to china and introduced to Britain in 1754.

Ginkgos are the sole survivors of an ancient group of trees which dominated tree life over 200 million years ago, so were growing at the time of the dinosaurs.

When in leaf, the leaves are fan-shaped and turn a beautiful golden colour in autumn.

Gingko trees can live for over 3500 years! It is quite humbling to think of the times and changes this magnificent tree has seen already in its' lifetime. Gingko trees are more frequently being used  for urban planting as they are robust, pollution, drought and shade tolerant.

Try and make the time to share this trees energy (by placing your hand on its' mighty trunk), closing your eyes and taking some deep breaths. This tree gives particularly good hugs too! Also share any pictures if you would like to (this is only an option and not needed to log the cache!).

As you stand admiring the ginkgo, look out for its' neighbours an imrpressive wellingtonia and a cedar tree (both also having TPOs).

-----

You are looking for a nano, it is quite a busy spot but a great place to visit at night to take some time out, sit an admire the tree above you.

Congratulations to Kiting Klive for a FTF within 30 mins of the cache being published!
