Church Micro 9221...Sandy - Baptist Church
This cache has been placed to bring you to the Baptist church in Sandy.
The first certain registration of a Baptist meeting in Sandy came in February 1831 with a "Building in possession of John Foster to be used as a Baptist chapel". The building was registered by Thomas Middleditch, Blythe Foster and John Foster himself. A local newspaper reported on 8th October 1887 that the Baptist Chapel was erected in 1826 or 1827 by Calvinists who could not then pay for it and it was bought by John Foster and then registered for Baptist worship in 1831. This chapel, I believe. still stands in Pleasant Place. The Baptist Church at the publiched coordinates, to my understanding is the third Baptist chapel. A tender to build it was accepted from Mr Wade of Saint Neots. The chapel opened on 5th June 1888.
The cache is not at the published coordinates. To calculate the final coordinates, visit the church and adjacent church hall to find the following information from various foundation stones.
