Geocache Description:

This is my first hide!!

You're standing at the start/finish line of Harvey Caplin Memorial Speedway! Harvey Caplin Memorial Speedway is a long since abandoned kart racing track built in 1984 and was operated by an all volunteer non-profit organization named New Mexico Speedway Kart Racing Association later renamed, Albuquerque Speedway Karting. The track was host to kart races every other weekend during the summer months with local club championships and regional championships affiliated with the International Karting Federation (IKF). The track was host to a number of IKF Grand National events drawing racers and their families from all over the country. Due to frequent heavy vandalism and deminishing intrest in the club, the track was abandoned somewhere around 2010. I personally raced here from around 1990 to 2005. This area holds a special place in my heart. ABQ34, Indeed it was very fun! I couldn't imagine a better way to grow up.

Harvey Caplin (July 21, 1915 – November 14, 1984) was an American free-lance photographer of Albuquerque, NM His work spanned the American Southwest, but centered primarily on images of scenic and historical significance within the state of New Mexico. He documented the working life of cowboys on Bell Ranch, the lives of Native Americans, and landmarks. - Copy and pasted from Wikipedia.
