The town of Paruna, between Loxton and Lameroo, was proclaimed in 1914, after the opening of the Barmera to Paruna. The railways have since closed and been removed, replaced with a good, bituminised, Browns Well Highway. The name of the town meaning ‘stopping place’ from first nation’s peoples.
