Wenn wir am 3. Mai 2025 mit Euch in Hannover ein großes Event feiern wollen, ist es 25 Jahren her, dass Dave Ulmer losgezogen ist und einen schwarzen Plastikeimer mit CD´s, einer Videokassette, einer Dollarnote, einer Konservendose mit Bohnen und anderen Kleinigkeiten versteckte. Noch heute kann man den Ort des Caches in der Nähe der Stadt Portland im US-Bundesstaat Oregon besuchen. Die Koordinaten veröffentlichte er in einer Newsgroup und einen Tag später wurde das Versteck als erstes von Mike Teague gefunden. Dieser erstellte eine private Website, auf der weitere Stashs veröffentlicht wurden. Unser beliebtes Spiel "geocaching" war geboren.
Möglich wurde unser Spiel, da die US-Regierung am sog. Blue Switch Day am 2. Mai 2000 die Abschaltung der künstlichen Verschlechterung des GPS-Signals für nichtmilitärische Nutzer vorgenommen hat. Das GPS-Signal wurde damit von ca. 100 Metern Genauigkeit auf ca. 10 Meter erhöht, was den Einsatz privater GPS-Geräte ermöglichte.
Was länge also ferner, als den 3. Mai zu feiern? Fast überall auf der Welt können wir heute unserem Hobby nachgehen. Ganz besondere Cacherouten gibt es zu entdecken, Länderpunkte zu sammeln, Orte zu entdecken, Menschen kennenzulernen. Ein weltweites Hobby.
Wir möchten am 3. Mai mit Euch allen in Hannover um die Welt reisen. Virtual und mit vielen Spielen, aber auch kulinarisch, visuell und akkustisch. Ihr dürft auf unser Programm rund um den Globus gespannt sein. Hannover wird International an dem Tag für Geocacher.
An vielen Mitmachstationen gilt es andere Erdteile zu entdecken und zu erleben. Daneben werden wir Caches bauen, die Ihr mit nach Hause nehmen könnt. Es wird Rätselstationen geben und zahlreiche Verpflegungsstationen, an denen Köstlichkeiten von allen Kontinenten genossen werden können. Wir planen Workshops zu Sprachen rund um die Welt, eine Bilderausstellung zu besonderen Cacheorten u.v.m.
Das Programm rund um den Globus wird noch wachsen.

There are many hands-on stations where you can discover and experience other parts of the world. We will also build caches that you can take home. There will be puzzle stations and numerous food stations where delicacies from all continents can be enjoyed. We are planning workshops on languages around the world, a picture exhibition on special cache locations and much more.
The program around the world will continue to grow.
