THE DOWNY WOODPECKER

The Downy Woodpecker is the most common woodpecker thoughout Alberta and is the most likely to be attracted to backyard feaders A nesting pair excavates a cavity in a dead or dying tree trunk or branch. The female lays 4 or 5 eggs and incubates them for 11 - 13 days. The birds forage for insect eggs, cocoons, larve and adults as well as seeds and nuts. I spotted one here a few days ago so decide to hide another bird series cache in the area.
I am giving some directions for a route to the cache, even though I know no one pays any attention to these things. Park at the western end of the Bow Ridge Commumity close to the reference point co-ordinate. The reference point is a pass way from the community to the perimeter pathway system. The trailhead co-ordinate marks the start of a very nicely constructed path that will lead you down to the base of the escarpment. There are other unofficial and steeper paths that will tempt you on the very short walk to the easier path
There are finder's cards for the first 12 cachers.
