Start your caching day off with a CITO along the footpaths and open spaces bordering the River Derwent in Old Malton and towards southwards Malton.
An additional item for your Leap Day icon collection!
The southern limit of the CITO is at N54 08.110 W000 47.120 just by brick wall that was a western end of the bridge which carried the Malton - Gilling railway over the River Derwent. Beyond this point is Orchard Fields, the site of a Scheduled Monument and special permission has to be granted to hold a CITO there.
The River Derwent flooded parts of footpaths and fields its in the aftermath of recent winter storms, Sadly a substantial amount of litter was carried by the flood waters and we can help eradicate it!
A free small car park ng is close to the stated coordinates.
Come along prepared to spend a while clearing the area and removing the litter. It is likely to be in the form of food/drink container related litter, however care must be taken with all items.
Please bring the following with you:
- Suitable footwear and clothing
- Gloves
- A litter picker, if you have one
I will provide:
- Bin liners
- A couple of litter pickers - to be returned to me!
If you have concerns about any litter then we can assess it together. Everyone takes part at their own risk and is responsible for their own loved ones, this is a low risk environment although extra care must be taken by the river.
At the end of the CITO, bring the collected rubbish to the starting coordinates for disposal.
