The Mascot
Although proudly known as The Mercer Island High School Islanders, the unofficial mascot is a beloved community favorite named, "Herbert." In the 1970's the "Tropical Warrior Islander" caricature that the high school previously used was deemed to be offensive, was voted out by MIHS administrators, parents & students and has not been used since. The community chose a more politically-correct mascot, one that resembled the school district logo depicting mountains, water & sun (see logo below). Nobody could possibly think this new mascot is offensive, except maybe gardeners. Now if you are lucky, you can enjoy seeing "Herbert" the MI mascot hanging around high school sporting events, assemblies and other school activities.

The Ground Zero location is near the high school, but in a less busy place, at Rotary Park, just where the mascot "Herbert" might like to hide out. Locate GZ and you can find out what the MIHS mascot really is.
CITO, there is a trash can located by the Rotary Park sign💚
Congrats to DM&K Catchers & RavenPhrases for FTF👍 Go MI!
