This earthcache will take you to a granite monument in Port William..
The purpose of this earthcache will help you learn what Xenoliths are and how they are formed.
Granite is a light-colored ignous rock with grains large enough to be visible with the unaided eye. It forms from the slow crystallization of magma below Earth's surface.
Granite is composed mainly of quartz and feldspar with minor amounts of mica, amphiboles, and other minerals. This mineral composition usually gives granite a red, pink, gray, or white color with dark mineral grains visible throughout the rock.
A xenolith is a piece of rock trapped in another type of rock. Most of the time, a xenolith is a rock embedded in magma while the magma was cooling.
The co-ordinates will take you to a granite memorial to independant lifeboats where a particularly fine example of a xenolith can be seen right next to the crown depicted. Please answer the following questions and message me the answers do not put them in your log.
