DO NOT ATTEMPT FROM THE WEST
Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park
Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park is a peaceful (mostly) green corridor following the Burdihouse Burn as it winds its way from Old Burdiehouse Road to Gilmerton Road. It is a rich habitat for wildlife with woodpeckers, herons, deer and even otters known to visit. Some of the paths at the southern end of the park (especially those in Moredun Woods) can be VERY muddy. I would like to thank the Friends of BBVP for help with both information on the history and for some of the ideas for the caches.
According to the Edinburgh Geological Society website "The underlying geology, often exposed in the Burn and the valley walls, shows near to vertical bedded sedimentary rocks that demonstrate the extreme forces involved with the development of the nearby major Pentland Fault. The sedimentary rocks belong to the Lower Limestone Formation and the upper West Lothian Oil-Shale Formation placing their age around 330 million years ago, a time of shallow seas, deltas and periodically inundated forested mires to which the Lothian Coal Seams owe their origins.".
I have done the best I can with the coordinates - you should find yourself in the burn facing a small rockface/cliff with a large tree leaning over the burn to your left.
