Geocache Description:

21 June 2024, 14:00 - 15:00

North Dakota is the #1 honey-producing state in the nation. According to the 2022 statistics from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, North Dakota bees produced 31.2 million pounds of honey accounting for 22% of the total honey production nationwide. The value of North Dakota honey is over 82 million dollars. North Dakota produces enough honey for 594.8 million tablespoons which is enough honey to provide every resident of North Dakota 780 tablespoons of honey per year, or a little over 2 tablespoons per day per person.

If those statistics piqued your interest and you would like to learn more about honey production by visiting a modern honey harvesting/honeybee farming operation, consider joining us on Friday, June 21st at 2:00PM for a tour of the Browning Honey Company's operation in rural Stutsman County. During the tour, you will learn how honey is collected and processed along with what each of us can do to help all of the pollinators thrive in our own communities.

Unfortunately, we are little early in the season to see the actual honey harvesting and processing, but this will still be educational experience for all who attend this event. Expect the tour to last an hour or so.

IMPORTANT ALLERGY INFORMATION

Since this is an operational honeybee farm, there will be honeybees present. Although the likelihood of getting stung by a bee is slim, there is still chance of it occurring.

If you or a family member are allergic to bee venom, please take appropriate precautions.
