Geocache Description:

09 March 2024, 10:00 - 11:00

2024 Post Ice-fishing Season Lake CITO (21st Annual White Bear Lake Clean-up)

*** Same Location as Last Year ***

Here is the plan:

  • Event day: Saturday, March 9, 2024
  • Location: White Bear Lake / Ramsey County Park Boat Launch
    • 5050 Lake Ave, White Bear Lake, MN 55110
  • Time: 10 am to 11 am
  • Parking: There are two parking lots on site - go to the boat launch area. If ice conditions allow, people can also park on the ice at their own risk.
  • Who: ~Freshly Minted to Seasoned~ Geocachers and Muggles interested in helping out.

Schedule:

  • 10 am: Meet & Greet at the boat ramp and then head out onto the lake and along the shore.
    • I will have trash bags and instructions as to what area of the lake we will be cleaning up.
  • 10:50 am: Everyone returns from the lake for a Group Photo.
  • 11 am: CITO Event is done. Thanks and we'll see you all next year.

This CITO event is scheduled after all the Ice Shelters have been removed from the lake and to cleanup the debris left behind.

If the lake ice is not safe, we will redirect cleanup efforts to public shorelines and nearby parks.

Trash will be piled at the dumpsters for group photos and then placed in park dumpsters. Ramsey County Parks has given permission to use the dumpsters.

According to the Water Conservation District, typical items left out on the ice are: pieces of carpet, wood, cans, and bottles (broken and intact). If this trash remains on the ice and enters the lake after ice-out, it will have a negative effect on the lake's environment. The WCD suggest people bring something along to chop things loose from the ice such as small hatchets or ice choppers and safety glasses for those doing the chopping. Depending on ice conditions, wearing crampons might also be a good idea to assist in walking or pulling trash to the landing.
