RO: Bătălia de la Galați s-a desfășurat la sfârșitul Primului Război Mondial între trupele românești și cele rusești. Aceasta a avut loc între 20 și 22 ianuarie 1918. Bătălia de la Galați s-a purtat între forțele armate ale Regatului României și corpuri de voluntari ruși dezertați din fosta Armată Imperială Rusă.
În memoria acelor lupte, oraşul erou Galaţi a fost decorat de Regele Italiei, prin generalul Pietro Badoglio (1921) şi de Preşedintele Franţei, prin generalul Henri Mathias Berthelot (1922), acordându-i-se Crucea de Război a Italiei şi, respectiv, Crucea de Război a Franţei. De asemenea, în anul 1923, Societatea „Luptătorii Patriei, a demobilizaţilor ofiţeri şi grade inferioare” din Galaţi, propune primăriei orașului ridicarea unui Monument închinat Apărătorilor oraşului Galaţi. Acesta va fi distrus de regimul comunist în 1962 și reconstruit in 2017.
EN: The Battle of Galați took place at the end of the First World War between Romanian and Russian troops. It took place between January 20 and 22, 1918. The Battle of Galați was fought between the armed forces of the Kingdom of Romania and corps of Russian volunteers who deserted from the former Russian Imperial Army.
In memory of those battles, the hero city of Galati was decorated by the King of Italy, through General Pietro Badoglio (1921) and by the President of France, through General Henri Mathias Berthelot (1922), awarding it the Italian War Cross and, respectively, French Cross of War. Also, in 1923, the Society "Fighters of the Fatherland, of demobilized officers and lower ranks" from Galati, proposed to the city hall the erection of a Monument dedicated to the Defenders of the city of Galati. It will be destroyed by the communist regime in 1962 and rebuilt in 2017.
