Geocache Description:

29 March 2024, 13:00 - 14:00

Sündmusi on tehtud erinevates Eesti linnades kuid Haapsalus pole kordagi varem ajaloos kokkusaamist olnud.

Miks meie siin oleme ja sündmuse teeme? Miks mitte.

  • 1905. aastal avati Keila–Haapsalu raudtee.
  • 1995 a 22. septembril sõitis viimane regulaarne reisirong (DR1A-226) liinil Tallinn–Haapsalu

Events have been held in various Estonian cities, but there has never been a meeting in Haapsalu before in history.
Why are we here and doing the event? Why not. We are waiting together for the passenger train that came here for the first time 119 years ago and which has not come here for 29 years now. In the meantime, the government made empty promises, and almost a year later trains would have reached Haapsallu again.

The railway terminus, built at the beginning of the 20th century to serve the Haapsalu resort, with its mysteriously grandiose station building, awaits you on an exciting journey through time accompanied by the hum of a steam locomotive.
• In 1902, the construction of the railway line between Keila and the resort town of Haapsalu began.
• In 1905, the Keila–Haapsalu railway was opened.
• On September 22, 1995, the last regular passenger train (DR1A-226) ran on the Tallinn–Haapsalu route
• In the spring of 2004, demolition work began on the railway. At the beginning of May, the entire staff was laid off and the train Robert made its last trips between Haapsalu and Riisipere.

The Railway and Communications Museum, located in the station building, presents the almost one and a half century development of Estonian railways, as well as the ways and possibilities of information exchange. On retirement, next to the iron runes, you will meet here, among other things, a polite station master, a skeleton telephone, and you can enter the post office of the station.

Haapsalu is an ideal destination for families, couples looking for romance, as well as health promoters who want to take a walk in a beautiful resort town, enjoy winter pleasures, visit spas and dine in valued restaurants.
