- The human body contains about 4-6 teaspoons of magnesium; 50 – 60% of this is found in bones and teeth. The cells of a healthy heart contain about ten times the amount of magnesium found in blood
- The United States holds an estimated 65 metric tons of magnesium in natural magnesite deposits, according to the USGS. Of that, 88 percent is found in Nevada.
- Magnesium forms in stars as a result of the fusion of helium with neon.
- Magnesium is required for energy production, oxidative phosphorylation, and glycolysis. It contributes to the structural development of bone and is required for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and the antioxidant glutathione.
