HISTORIC WELL
This well was built in 1883 to help collect the pure water from the natural spring further up the hill. It was dug out of the sandstone to a depth of about 1m deep.
It was a source of water for people from the surrounding districts, coming from as far as Hunters Hill and Longueville, especially in times of drought when this spring continued to flow.
The well was later filled in but was uncovered during track improvement works in 1991 and is considered a significant local historic feature.

The rusty colour of the water indicates the surrounding subsoil is rich in iron.
