White Stone Mountain (白石山), located in the Daxi (大溪) district of northern Taiwan, is a narrow stone ridge that rises 625 meters above sea level. It is a fairly steep climb up from the Datieliao Ancient Trail (打鐵寮古道), with some ropes at certain points to help you climb up. It’s not a particularly dangerous climb, but I’d recommend bringing gloves for the ropes and shoes with good grips for the ridge itself, which can be slippery when wet. Because of the steep climb and cliff, I would not recommend visiting this place on a rainy day. At the peak you’ll be treated to spectacular views of Daxi township, Shimen Reservoir, and the nearby mountains. There are several different routes up to the peak. The trailhead listed here is merely the shortest way up, and the paved road that leads up to it is accessible by either scooter or car. There is plenty of parking space right near the trailhead, which is near a large pond. A final word of caution: while the peak of the mountain is on a VERY steep ridge, the cache itself is easily accessible without doing any dangerous climbing or going too near the edge of the cliff. Bring plenty of water during the hot summer months, and please replace the cache in exactly the same state that you found it.
