Stone Turtle Mountain (石龜坑山) is a 480-meter peak that branches off of the Bai Ji Forest Trail (百吉林蔭步道), which used to be called Shi Guei Keng Ancient Trail (石龜坑古道). It lies on the opposite side of Tou Liao Mountain (頭寮山), with the Bai Ji Forest trail cutting between the two mountains. The climb up to the peak is quite steep, and not recommended on rainy days. It’s advisable to bring gloves because there are ropes along the trail at steep points to hold on to as you climb. To find the trailhead, you need to first get on the Bai Ji Forest trail, which is a paved path leading through the forest. After about a 20-minute walk along the path, you will come to the highest point of the paved path where you will find a rest pavilion with a map of the area which shows Tou Liao Mountain on one end, and Shi Guei Keng Mountain on the opposite end. The trailhead leading to Shi Guei Keng Mountain has a sign that says Bai Shi Shan (白石山), and that is the natural trail you should take (NOT the trail to Tou Liao Mountain). The climb up to Shi Guei Keng Mountain from this point takes about 50 minutes. There is parking available at various spots along the road leading up to the Bai Ji Forest Trail trailhead, and this road is just off of the Number 7 Northern Cross-Island Road (台7線 / 北橫), right before you come to the Bai Ji tunnel (百吉隧道).
