The Datieliao Heritage Trail (打鐵寮古道) is a splendid, serene hiking trail located in rural Daxi (大溪) that runs along a creek. It’s a dog-walker's paradise, and offers many side-trails if you want a more vigorous hike that will take you up to nearby peaks such as 白石山, 石龜坑山, etc. for superb mountain vistas. The basic trail is generally quite flat and easy to navigate, a lovely place for a family outing to enjoy the sounds of nature such as the warbling of Formosan barbets and the shrieks of eagles soaring overhead. This cache is located near the trailhead, and there is parking and bathrooms available just above the trailhead (a voluntary fee of 20NT for scooters or 50NT for cars is requested, and there is a box along the side of the building where you can throw in your coins as payment. The bathrooms are located at the rear of the building).
