Geocache Description:

This was originally a giant sized 3d bolt that came out bigger than intended but has since been muggled. My current mission is to create caches for the Bronx where they are sorely lacking. Hoping to bring some fun, informative and silly caches to you all. Below are some fun facts about the borough - if you hate long cache descriptions, you can def skip as they have nothing to do with finding the cache :-p

  • Did you know that New York City named the Bronx after the river that ran through the land?
  • Did you know that the Bronck's river is named after a Scandinavian man named Jonas Bronck, who settled in the area in 1639 and whose farm "Emmaus" the river ran through?
  • Did you know that before that, Native Siwanoy Lenape called the area Rananchqua?
  • Did you know that Co-op City is the largest cooperative-owned space in America?
  • Did you know the Boogie Down is the birthplace of Hip Hop and breakdancing?
  • Did you know that despite all the concrete and steel, the Bronx is the greenest borough in NYC, with the highest percentafe of land dedicated to parks and home the NYC's largest park: Pelham Bay Park.
  • Did you know that Patience and Fortitude (the lion statues in front of the New York Public Library's main 42nd St brance) AND the Lincoln Memorial were carved by the Piccirilli brothers in their Mott Haven studio?
  • Did you know that the Bronx has the world's most extensive Art Deco Style (my fav!) Architecture collection?
  • Did you know that Haagen Dazs ice cream debuted in the Bronx in the 1920s, sold out of horse drawn wagons?
