Geocache Description:

Guy Lombardo, was born June 19, 1902, London, Ont., Can.—died Nov. 5, 1977, Houston, Texas, U.S. The Canadian-born American dance-band leader whose New Year’s Eve radio and television broadcasts with his Royal Canadians became an American tradition for 48 years. By 1929 he was the winter attraction at New York City's Roosevelt Grill, a booking repeated for more than 30 years. After the Grill closed, Lombardo moved to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, continuing the televised New Year’s Eve broadcasts, begun in 1954, that climaxed with the playing of “Auld Lang Syne.”

In 1933 Lombardo and his wife spent the summer on their boat Tempo, docked in Freeport. They fell in love with Freeport and by 1940 they bought property in Freeport and built a house on South Grove Street. The street was eventually renamed "Guy Lombardo Way."

To find the cache, go to the posted coordinates where the historical marker for Guy Lombardo's House is. Next to the marker is a telephone pole with numbers on the street side. Use the bottom 3 digit number to help find the coordinates to the final.
