"La casa della manina"
La mano che sormonta il portone di corso Matteotti 45 è legata ad una storia che, come molte altre, sconfina nella leggenda.
A quanto si racconta qui abitava madame Ebe de Marivaux, una cortigiana bellissima assediata da corteggiatori generosi. Uno di questi fu il finanziere russo Bilinsky che si innamorò pazzamente di lei elargendole grosse somme di denaro. Quando Bilinsky fece bancarotta, volle vendicarsi della bella Ebe che aveva già trovato un altro spasimante.
Così una sera l’aspettò sotto casa e quando lei scese dalla carrozza accompagnata da un altro uomo, l’assalì con un pugnale, ma la lama andò a conficcarsi nel tronco di un albero che per molti anni venne ricordato come “l’albero di Ebe”
Di questa storia rimane la scultura della sua mano nell’intento di porgere una lettera il cui significato rimane misterioso.
Di certo si sa che nel 1912 un’attrice, Ebe Bonini Picello, all’Alfieri recitava in una commedia del celebre drammaturgo francese Pierre de Marivaux. Sarà stata lei la Ebe de Marivaux di corso Matteotti 45?

"The house of the little hand"
The hand that surmounts the door of Corso Matteotti 45 is linked to a story which, like many others, borders on legend.
It is said that Madame Ebe de Marivaux lived here, a beautiful courtesan besieged by generous suitors. One of these was the Russian financier Bilinsky who fell madly in love with her and gave her large sums of money. When Bilinsky went bankrupt, he wanted to take revenge on the beautiful Hebe who had already found another suitor. So one evening he waited for her outside the house and when she got out of the carriage accompanied by another man, he attacked her with a dagger, but the blade stuck in the trunk of a tree which for many years was remembered as "Ebe's tree".
What remains of this story is the sculpture of his hand with the intention of offering a letter whose meaning remains mysterious. What is certainly known is that in 1912 an actress, Ebe Bonini Picello, acted in a comedy by the famous French playwright Pierre de Marivaux at the Alfieri. Could she have been the Ebe de Marivaux of Corso Matteotti 45?
