I think we have all had unpleasant encounters with March flies. Also known as horseflies, they inflict a painful bite before having a good old feed on your blood. They also enjoy a good feed of nectar and plant juices.
At certain times of the year they are very plentiful in this area and will be very keen to feast on you. They particularly like anything black, so maybe avoid wearing black in fly season!
