Geocache Description:

Behold, if you will, the humble pig. Yes, they are tasty creatures, if you like pork- be it ham or bacon, chops or in pulled form as barbeque. But, there’s so much more than that.

Maybe you’ve read Charlotte’s Web. Well, who hasn’t? Regardless, any element of that story is purely coincidental here.

Miss Piggy? Nope. Porky Pig? Sorry.

Animal Farm? Some are more equal than others? Well, getting closer.

Of course, if you know where the name of this cache came from, you already know where this is going- or where it goes back to.

That would be 1977, when the British rock group Pink Floyd released their album entitled Animals. Despite being a commercial success, it doesn’t get a lot of radio airplay – due in large part to how long the songs are.  It could also be fair to say that it’s a pretty divisive album- unlike their landmarks of The WallWish You Were Here and, of course, Dark Side of the Moon. Opinions vary. Some people love it, some not so much. Your mileage may vary.

But yes, the songs are named after animals (even though they had been played, live, for years previously under other “working” titles). There’s "Dogs", "Sheep" and yes, "Pigs" – either as “Three Different Ones” or the bookends of Pigs on a Wing parts 1 and 2.

There’s a story behind how the cover art came into being. Working with the design group Hipgnosis, the concept involved photographing an inflatable giant pig flying over the Battersea Power Station in London.  Problems arose however, as the shoot ended up lasting two days, yet a sharpshooter that was on hand in case the pig “escaped” was only hired for the first day.

As fate would have it, on the second day, the line holding the pig to the ground mysteriously broke and the pig flew off and travelled outside the city, landing in a farm in the English countryside.

It all sounds a bit like a publicity stunt, if you ask us.

Anyways, here’s our tribute to pigs that thought they could fly.. especially the one that almost got away with it.

Please bring your own writing utensil. There is no need to remove the log container, so please just unscrew the cap and replace it after signing, and return the cache in the location and condition in which it was found.

You do not need to be able to fly, but you will need some sort of vertical enhancement device to reach this one.

Congratulations to Geo-Froggy for the FTF!

Good Luck and Happy Caching..
